Anatomic Pathology (Histopathology) Services
Genex Laboratories offers comprehensive diagnostic testing for skin, soft tissue, bone, and cytology specimens obtained via biopsy, surgical excision, and/or amputation. Our services include histopathology, cytopathology, immunohistochemistry, and special stains. All specimens are evaluated by our experienced board-certified pathologists, who offer accurate and reliable diagnoses aligned with current national management guidelines.
Below are examples of routine specimens that may be submitted for histopathology to evaluate for numerous benign, malignant, infectious, and autoimmune disease processes. This is not an exhaustive list; additional tissues may also be submitted.
Nail Unit:
- Onychomycosis (PAS, GMS, FM)
- Dystrophy
- Pigmented streak/lesion (rule out melanoma)
- Non-pigmented streak/lesion (rule out carcinoma)
Skin:
- Pigmented Lesions (rule out melanoma)
- Non-pigmented lesions (rule out carcinoma, verruca)
- Dermatitis (eczema, drug reaction)
- Infection (parasite, fungal, bacterial)
- Ulceration (vasculitis, malignancy)
- Epidermal nerve fiber density testing (coming soon)
Skin:
- Mass (benign and malignant tumors, e.g. lipoma, ganglion, sarcoma)
- Inflammatory (abscess, tophus, immune-related) Gangrene
Bone:
- Osteoarthritis (DJD, hammer toe, exostosis, etc)
- Lytic/Destructive (osteomyelitis, neoplasm)
- Fracture
Fluid/Cytology:
- Joint fluid
- Cyst fluid
- Abscess
- Blood
- Secretions
- Other aspirated fluid (e.g., mass)
